The machine's BIOS shows this CF as a 1-sector device . They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. I didn't find any IDE BIOS options. Manual intervention is required. They help insure signal integrity. openBSD seems ok; it just momentarily stalls the boot while it times out, and then figures it out.
