Yesterday my a330 worked fine. That was a time stamp on a photograph. However the basic suggestion to turn off the lens recognition will often allow the 7D to use a lens without AF (manually).
The first thing to do, is take some isopropyl alcohol and q-tips, and try to clean the lens contacts. When you connect the lens to the body, the lens release button should come back up fully (otherwise the camera will not acknowledge the lens). If the contacts are clean AND the lens connects correctly, then the only other reality is that the chip inside the lens has gone bad, and can only be used manually. but not with any Sigma until I changed this setting. I'm trying to attach a spotting scope and get this error message. Are you sure it's fully charged?
