- If you're on Vista, that could be the problem as well.

What the heck? I do not know what to do other than contact Sony for tech support. How do I reinstall this service? Verify the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine is installed.

Need to verify this in two steps: (a) Use Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and look for Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR). (b) If the engine is listed It also created a log file.
